Almost inevitably everyone experiences back pain at some point in their life. However, for some people managing back pain becomes quite a challenge, effecting their work and family life, their happiness and their ability to enjoy life. Factors such as overall health, age, family history, physical characteristics, psychological factors, attitudes toward medication and surgery and overall beliefs about one’s own health are some of the most common factors affecting the outcome of pain management. In this two hour workshop, Dr. Dashtban will be discussing ways to identify factors that have been helpful and those that have actually brought about more harm when managing back pain. The workshop will include the opportunity to use Dr. Dashtban’s skill building materials in assessing your specific circumstances. In addition, the workshop is geared to offer information and education, so bring all your questions: for example how to sleep better, how to still enjoy my life, how to plan special occasions. Dr. Dashtban, Psy.D. is a licensed clinical health psychologist. She is in private practice at Medical Psychology Services, Inc. in Capitola.
